The Access to Information and Open Government Policy team at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) is conducting an online consultation called 'Let’s Talk Open Government'. This initiative seeks public input to help inform Canada’s 6th National Action Plan on Open Government.   

Participation in the consultation process is voluntary and can take place through any of the tools listed on this website. By participating, you indicate acknowledgement and acceptance of this Privacy Statement and our Terms of Use. The Privacy Statement sets out how your personal information will be collected and for which purpose, as well as how it will be used and disclosed. The Terms of Use sets out the conditions of the consultation website.

Collection of personal information 

Participation in this consultation platform is voluntary, and you may choose to post anonymously. However, you acknowledge that the comments you provide will be public by default. Any personal information you provide is collected under the authority of the Financial Administration Act (FAA).  

Should you choose to participate in the Let’s Talk Open Government Consultation and register for an account, you will be required to provide a username and email address and agree to Publivate’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

In addition, when you register to participate in the engagement process, you have the option to provide us with demographic information, such as your province/territory, and your industry/stakeholder type. You may choose “prefer not to answer” to these questions or discontinue participation in this process at any time. 

The provision of personal information in any opinions or feedback you provide via the consultation process is prohibited as per the Terms of Use below. Any personal, protected or classified information provided will be removed by a moderator. 

Use and disclosure of personal information 

The personal information you provide in order to participate in the Let’s Talk Open Government Consultation will be used for the following purposes: 

  • Registration information – will be used to create an account to allow you to participate in the consultation process. This information may further be used in aggregate for statistical, and reporting purposes in relation to the Let’s Talk Federal Regulation Consultation, such as to measure the Secretariat’s level of engagement with key stakeholder and underrepresented groups. 
  • Personal opinions and feedback on the Let’s Talk Open Government Consultation – will be used to help inform possible areas of opportunity for the Regulatory Affairs Sector. A What we Heard Report may be produced at a later date, providing stakeholders an overview of the feedback received. 

Your Rights 

Under the Privacy Act, you have the right of access to, and correction of, your personal information, if you have provided any. However, because the collection and use of your personal information through the consultation process is intended to be anonymous, TBS may have no means to identify your information in order to address your right of correction.

We look forward to hearing from you. The public feedback received in the previous phases of our engagement process have helped inform the plan’s draft commitments and activities, and we are now seeking your input on Canada’s 6th National Action Plan on Open Government.  

The Access to Information and Open Government team at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat will read comments and participate in discussions when appropriate. Your comments and contributions must be relevant and respectful. While comments are moderated, we will not censor any comments except in a few specific cases, as listed below.  

Any activity or material that violates the Terms of Use will be removed. Similarly, registered accounts acting contrary to these Terms of Use may be temporarily or permanently disabled. By choosing to participate on the Let’s Talk Open Government website, you are indicating that you agree to abide by the Terms of Use.  

Our team will not engage in partisan or political issues or respond to questions that violate these Terms of Use. 

Our team reserves the right to remove certain comments and contributions, and to block users based on the following criteria. 

Comments or contributions that: 

  • include personal, protected or classified information of the Government of Canada or infringes upon intellectual property or proprietary rights 
  • are contrary to the principles of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Constitution Act, 1982 
  • are racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic or defamatory, or contain or refer to any obscenity or pornography 
  • are threatening, violent, intimidating or harassing 
  • are contrary to any federal, provincial or territorial laws of Canada 
  • constitute impersonation, advertising or spam 
  • encourage or incite any criminal activity 
  • are written in a language other than English or French 
  • otherwise violate this notice
